Barkhordari Wins First Bronze in Guadalajara 2022

On the first day of the Guadalajara 2022, the -80kg Bronze was grabbed by Mehran Barkhordari,

Iran Taekwondo PR - the 25th World Taekwondo Championship started yesterday evening, Monday, November 14th, with the participation of 728 taekwondo players from 120 countries at the Metropolitano Hall in Guadalajara. Mehran Barkhordari, the only representative of Iran in this event, succeeded to achieve the valuable bronze medal of the Championships on the first day.

In the -58kg competition, where 46 taekwondo players have registered, Mehran Barkhordari defeated Tormod DAVIS from Canada in two rounds with the results of 7-0 and 8-4. In the following contest, he defeated the Dominican Moises HERNANDEZ  in 2 consecutive rounds (1st round: 3-1 and 2nd : 3-2); and went to overcome  Shukhrat SALAEV from Uzbekistan in both consecutive rounds with the same results  of 3-1.

With this victory, Mehran made his way to the quarter-final where he defeated AZBAYAR ALTANGEREL from Mongolia 2-1. In the semi-final, he faced Woo-Hyeok PARK from Korea and made to win in the first round with the result of 9-5.

In the second round, it was the Korean Park who won with a score of 14-7 to advance to the third round which ended 9-5 to the Gold Medalist Park. Mehran Barkhordari who - as reported by WT -  “had fought a sensational battle against Park in the Semis” achieved the first bronze medal for Iran Taekwondo.
